It’s widely known that Osaka Popstar’s John Cafiero is a huge fan of the underground art scene. Renowned cult artist Drew Friedman recently held a private book release party in the Milton Berle room at the exclusive Friars Club in NYC for his latest book “More Old Jewish Comedians”. The scene was a total who’s who of comedians, artists and musicians all on hand to celebrate Drew's new book release.
John was in attendance and had this to say. “Drew’s work is brilliant. It’s incredibly rich and a bit disturbed in a beautifully atrocious way, just like another favorite artist of mine; Basil Wolverton. I was turned onto Wolverton’s work by the covers of “Plop!” comics as a kid. Coincidentally, Wolverton’s work was a huge influence on Drew and it shows. It was an honor to be among artists and performers that have made an indelible impression in my life.”
John highly recommends ALL of Drew’s books. “Old Jewish Comedians”, the follow up “More Old Jewish Comedians” and his comic strip anthologies) for lovers of fine art with eclectic taste.
Guests included comedians Jerry Stiller (Seinfeld, Hairspray, Zoolander), Gilbert Gottfried (Aladdin, Ramones Raw, Crank Yankers), NY talk show staple and all around show business giant Joe Franklin, Mickey “Sgt. Bilko” Freeman, Larry “F Troop” Storch, Artie Delmar & Michael Townsend Wright of the Uncle Floyd show, comedian Jeffrey Ross, drummer Dennis Diken of The Smithereens, cartoonists Michael Kupperman and Kaz and many more!
